Walkathon For Diabetes
April, 2008

Dr. Tracey Stellato, Lyndhurst Assistant Superintendent of Schools and Aftercare Coordinator of the Stellato Funeral Homes, Inc., organized the first Walkathon for Diabetes in the Township of Lyndhurst.  All grades, Kindergarten through 12th, were involved in the event which was held on April 14, 2008.  Different routes were taken, depending on the grade level of the students.  Over $26,000 was raised.  A spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association told Dr. Stellato that this was the most money ever raised by a school district on the East Coast.  Tracey coordinated the entire walk and Debbie Calandriello, another employee of the funeral home, took part also.  Louis Stellato, III and Joe Cardiello, funeral home staff, brought bottles of water for the walkers to Lyndhurst High School, where the walk began and ended.  ''It is exciting to see the enthusiasm of both the students and the staff for this endeavor.  I am so proud of them all.'' said Dr. Stellato.  ''I was also  happy that our funeral home got involved in this worthwhile event.''
