Russell Talamo

Russell Talamo, 77, of Fairfield, New Jersey, passed away early on Easter morning, Sunday, April 1, 2018. Beloved husband of Loretta Talamo (nee Gakeler), his wife of 54 years. Loving father of Laura Thomas & her husband Russell of Denville, and Russell Talamo & his wife Karen of Pittstown. Dear brother of Anna Sagona, Salvatore Talamo & his wife Salvina, Josephine DiPiazza, Tony Talamo & his wife Anna, Marie Messina & her husband James and the late Concetta Dispenza. Cherished grandfather of David & Steven Gasperini and Brenna & Cynthia Talamo. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews & cousins. Russell came to America from Alia, Sicily at the age of 14. His family settled in Passaic, where he later met his future wife, Loretta. He and Loretta married in 1963 and moved to Fairfield in 1967. Before his retirement, Russell was employed as a butcher for the A&P for 50 years and served both as shop steward and on the executive board of the UFCW 464. He was a member of the DaVinci Italian Club and played in the bocce league in Fairfield. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends, traveling, gardening, making wine, spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sports and activities. Memorial Service Saturday, April 14th, at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Road, Fairfield. Friends will be received Saturday 2:30-5PM.
