Anthony R. Bartello

October 18, 1936 — April 16, 2023

Anthony R. Bartello, 86, of Caldwell, New Jersey passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023. Beloved husband of Barbara (nee Pribula) Bartello. Loving father of Alfred, Lisa & her husband Chuck Voelker, and Anthony L. & his wife Dana Bartello. Cherished grandfather of Jeffrey, Carly, Jenna, Danielle, AJ, Marissa, and Brianna. Adored great-grandfather of Dean, Liam,Lila, and Callum. Dear brother of the late Adeline DiPiazza and Santa Coda. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Tony was a US Army veteran serving from 1959-1964 as First Lt. of the Military Police. He was a Hall of Fame and Legend member of the Holy Name Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. Tony was an active parishioner of St. Thomas More Parish and all its ministries. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #6380, Cursillo and Cornerstone, and the Passionist Missionaries. He was a member of the Upper Montclair Country Club for over 30 years and Honorary member of the High Five Card Club. By so many people and for so many reasons, Tony will be remembered and sorely missed. A perfect gentleman and a true leader of the band, Tony not only conducted the drum corps, but he also orchestrated the amazing masterpiece that is his family and friends with incredible grace, dignity and, of course, style - any occasion to wear a dapper suit. He brought out the best in all lucky enough to meet him. His undivided attention and sincere presence in conversation made others feel equally important and respected. No one was exempt from his kindness or his generosity. He had the ability to command any gathering, and at the same time make everyone else feel like the most important person in the room. He was always ready with a joke, usually tasteful. He made his friends feel like family. They became family. You know who you are. Tony loved golf, the Yankees, bourbon with an occasional cigar, dogs, salesmanship, closing the deal and any family event. Tony loved no one more dearly than his wife of 64 years, Barbara. What a pair! The ripples begun by Tony and Barbara will be felt for all time in the ever-widening circle of their family and friends. As life presented its unanticipated joys and challenges, Tony and Barbara, have navigated through these adventures, always guided by their incredible faith in God. Tony passed away on his own terms, laughing peacefully in his sleep with the love of his life by his side, even saying aloud "Here I Come" in his dreams as his last words, ready to be greeted by all of the loved ones who have entered the kingdom of heaven before him. We can all rest easier knowing that he will be looking down on us helping guide, teach and nurture us through all of life's tribulations. He will certainly be with us to celebrate all of our triumphs. He is proudly smiling on all of us, today, and he will continue shining down on us forever.
