Carmelo Ramirez, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the age of 92.

Carmelo was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Life asked a lot of him early. He lost his father as a young boy and stepped up to help carry his family. At just 16, he volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Army and went to war in Korea with the 65th Infantry Regiment, the proud Puerto Rican unit known as the Borinqueneers. He served with courage through hard combat and a brutal Korean winter.

After coming home, Carmelo met and married Maria Brandon, and they raised two boys, Harold and Jeffrey. Despite his own difficult upbringing, he gave everything he had to build a better life for his sons. He was old school through and through, a hardworking provider who was tough as nails. But anyone who truly knew him knew that underneath all the toughness: a gentle, tender hearted father who loved his boys unconditionally.

Nothing brought him more happiness than his grandchildren. They were his greatest joy. He loved to bake cookies, mini cheesecake, and cook for them, and whenever one of them was home sick from school, he dropped everything to be by their side. Even in his final days, his heart was with them, and he kept asking to see them and wanted to make sure they had everything they needed.

Carmelo is survived by his loving wife, Maria, his sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Josephine Ramirez and Jeffery and Lori Ramirez; and his grandchildren, Giovanni, Michael, Giuliana, Alfred, and Jack, who will carry his love with them always.
