July 6, 1964 — December 1, 2023

Douglas Robert Sisk, known as Doug, nickname (Dougie Fresh) by all who knew him, passed away on December 1st, 2023 surrounded by his family. Born on July 6th, 1964, in Bayonne, Doug spent his entire life in the city that he loved, surrounded by the community and the people who meant the most to him.

Doug was the devoted life partner of Dawn Vulcano and a loving father to his sons, Jeremy Sisk (Allison) and Brandon Sisk, his pride and joy. He was a cherished brother to Lisa Zelachowski (Michael), Renee Arntzen (John) and Nadine Dabrowski (John). He was a respected brother- in-law to Lori Sisk,

Kim Vulcano and Joe Vulcano. Doug was predeceased by his mother, Veronica Gelardi, his father Robert Sisk, his brother, Darren Sisk, and Elaine Vulcano. His legacy continues through his many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews, who will miss his friendly, intelligent, and funny presence in their lives.

Doug’s career as firefighter was not just a job but a calling. He exemplified courage and stood as a pillar of strength and safety in the community he served as a Lieutenant in the Bayonne Fire Department. He was recognized for his outstanding service as a first responder at ground zero after the

devastating terrorist attack on 9/11.

Doug reveled in his sons’ achievements, whether cheering loudly from the sidelines at sports events or enjoying the melodies at band performances. He was their biggest supporter, instilling in them the value of perseverance and the importance of teamwork.

Doug was a man of diverse interests and talents. A true sports enthusiast, on and off the field, Doug's passion for the NY Mets and the Denver Broncos was well known. Had a love for being an GSSA Umpire (referred to by the players as “Dougie Out”) even though he was one of the fairest and accurate umpires. Billiards, playing cards with family, and attending Broadway shows spoke to his zest for life and entertainment. Doug also found joy in the excitement of horseracing and the fun of singing karaoke with family and friends.

Doug a double transplant organ recipient was sent a miracle that allowed him to live this zestful life. Through a selfless act from a family at a most devasting time of tragedy, Doug was blessed with fourteen more years. Knowing Doug, he is already searching heaven for his angel, Jahira to tell her, THANK YOU!

Those who knew Doug would describe him as the life of the party, a man who brought laughter and light-heartedness wherever he went. His quick wit and sense of humor were infectious, and his intelligence shone through in every conversation. Doug's presence was a gift to those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt.
