Ellen Gregus

passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 16th, 2020 at the Armenian Nursing Home in Emerson, N.J. of complications of the COVID-19 virus. She was 90 yrs. old.
Her burial will take place on April 24th at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.

Ellen was born in Liptovska Luzna, Slovakia and later immigrated to New York at the age of 16. It was in New York City where she met and married Rudolph Gregus. They settled in Palisades, NY and raised two girls. Her passion was her family. From driving her girls to music lessons and ballet to home cooked meals awaiting everyone at the end of the day. In addition to being a loving mother and devoted wife, Ellen excelled at baking homemade Slovak pastries, especially around the holidays when the entire home smelled like a bakery! She was also an accomplished seamstress who made many of her girls clothes including hand crocheted dresses. She was very active in the Slovak community assisting her husband at cultural affairs and most dedicated to the Slovak church St. Johns Nepomucene for over 50 yrs. where she sang in the choir and was a lecturer. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, dancing, watching “love stories” on tv and most proud of her elegant wardrobe including matching hats and handbags and shoes.
She will be dearly missed

Ellen is survived by her daughters Ruzena Goldenberg and Luba Mason, sons-in-law Dr. Alec Goldenberg, Ruben Blades, 3 grandchildren; Grant, Caitlin and Caroline Goldenberg, nieces Vera Davies, Sonja Nienstedt, Ellen Boldis, Linda Pancari and nephew John Boldis Jr..

Due to the COVID-19 virus quarantine, a private showing will take place at Hunt Stellato Funeral Home in Fort Lee, NJ.
