It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of gratitude for a life richly lived that we announce the passing of Guadalupe, a remarkable soul who left this world on August 15, 2026. Born on April 7, 1938, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Guadalupe was a beacon of strength, love, and resilience to all who knew her.

Guadalupe was the cherished daughter of José and Cruz Rivera. Despite facing numerous hardships from an early age, she dedicated herself to supporting her family, abandoning her studies to work tirelessly in various roles. Her sacrifice and determination laid the foundation for a better future for her children and grandchildren.

In 1955, Guadalupe married Agapito Francisco, and together they built a beautiful family, welcoming their children, Erma Altagracia, José Leoner, and Adriana Mercedes, into the world. During a turbulent period in the Dominican Republic, Guadalupe courageously orchestrated her family's escape to a safer life. She first journeyed to Shirley, NY, in 1969, where she worked as a seamstress before reuniting with her beloved family. In 1973, Guadalupe and Agapito renewed their vows at St. Columba parish, solidifying their love in the eyes of God. They welcomed a new addition to the family, their youngest daughter, Whanda in May of 1974.

Guadalupe's tenacity extended beyond her family life. She worked multiple jobs, including as an overnight janitorial worker for CBS and a lunch lady, to fund her children's education and support her family. Even after becoming a widow, she continued to provide for those she loved by offering childcare services.

An active member of the Neocatechumenal Way community, Guadalupe's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devout participant at St. Columba Church and later at St. Mary's Church in West New York, NJ. Her passion for floral arrangements brought beauty to her community, and her talent as a florist was admired by many.

Known for her sharp wit and tender heart, Guadalupe was a trusted advisor to many. She extended her kindness to all in need, never turning away from those who sought her counsel. Her legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and unwavering love.

Guadalupe is survived by her loving children, Erma, José, Adriana, and Whanda, as well as her 16 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her memory. She is predeceased by her beloved spouse, Agapito, her parents, her siblings Esperanza, Gloria, Anna, and Jose Rivera, her son-in-law Victor Gomez, and her great-grandchild Jack Colon.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff members of Hunt-Stellato, the 1st community, and the entire local communities for their unwavering support and compassion during this difficult time.

A service to celebrate Guadalupe's life will be held on August 21, 2026, at 9:00 AM at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, located at 569 65th Street, West New York, NJ 07093. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Guadalupe's memory to a charity of your choice.

In this time of mourning, we find solace in the extraordinary life Guadalupe led and the countless lives she touched. She will forever remain in our hearts, a guiding light and an eternal source of inspiration.
