John P. Calabro

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John P. Calabro, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, who departed this life on July 18, 2026, at the age of 104. Born on March 25, 1922, in Newark, NJ to Richard and Anne (nee Magiatta) Calabro, John lived a life dedicated to family, service, and community.

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II, a period that instilled in him the values of duty and sacrifice. After returning home, he dedicated over 35 years of his life as a mechanic and maintenance supervisor at Colonial Sand & Stone in Newark, NJ, where he was known for his exceptional skills and unwavering work ethic.

Beyond his professional life, John was a past member of the North Arlington VFW, where he connected with fellow veterans and shared memories of camaraderie and honor. In recognition of his commitment to the community and his military service, he had the distinct honor of being named the Grand Marshal of the North Arlington Memorial Day Parade in 2026, a celebration that highlighted his lifelong dedication to serving others.

John is predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine (nee Hock) Calabro. He is survived by his loving sons, Stephen & his wife Joanne Calabro and Bruce & his wife Maryann Calabro. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Lisa, Joseph & his wife Jamie, Amy & her husband Damian, Michele & her husband Sean, and Jennifer & her husband Paul. He was also a proud great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren, whose laughter and joy filled his heart.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday 4-8 PM. Funeral Thursday 10 AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Funeral service 11 AM at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum.

John P. Calabro lived a life rich in love, laughter, and legacy. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
