It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John T. Gebbia, Jr., aged 81, of Fairfield, New Jersey, who departed this life on May 8, 2026. Born on December 9, 1944, in Passaic, NJ, John was raised in Lodi before settling in Fairfield 42 years ago. He was the beloved son of the late John and Sadie Gebbia (nee Cangialosi). He dedicated his life to his family and community, providing unwavering support and love to all who knew him.
John graduated from high school and went on to pursue a successful career for the Teamsters as a mechanic at UPS. John worked tirelessly, driven not by the job itself but by his unwavering devotion for providing for his family. His kind spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. John had a gift for storytelling, bringing every memory to life with warmth, humor, and heart.
A devout parishioner of St. Thomas More Church, John actively served as a lector and Eucharistic minister and played a vital role in the religious education program through CCD. His faith extended beyond the church walls as he was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and participated in the Cursillo and Cornerstone movements. In his spare time John enjoyed collecting many items, upholding the philosophy "one man's junk is another man's treasure". John's love for automobiles led him to his true passion to join the Antique Automobile Club of America, where he participated yearly in their Hershey PA Car Show and Swap Meet for over 30 years.
John is pre-deceased by his son, Thomas Gebbia, and his brother, George Gebbia.
John leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted spouse, Joanne Gebbia (nee Lanzana); his children, John, and Janine Gebbia; son-in-law Michael Graham; and cherished grandsons, Peter Japhet and Thomas Breuer Gebbia-Graham. He is also survived by his sister, Roseann Mancuso and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, Fairfield NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas More Church, followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery.
The family kindly requests that donations be made to the Fairfield Historical Society and Friends of the Van Ness House.
John T. Gebbia, Jr. will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will continue to inspire those who follow.
