John James Pilovsky, affectionately known as John or DJ to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, in Englewood, New Jersey, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 5, 1948, in Jersey City, New Jersey, John's life was one marked by adventure, hard work, and unyielding devotion to his loved ones.
John was a man of many talents and interests. Although he left school in the 11th grade at Lincoln High School, he never stopped learning and excelling in various trades throughout his life. John was known for his handy nature, a trait that served him well in his diverse career. He worked in numerous jobs, always bringing his signature dedication and friendliness to each role. Upon retirement, John could often be found outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and camping. His love for the natural world was only matched by his passion for partying and celebrating life's moments with those he cherished.
A lifelong fan of the New York Giants, John's adventurous spirit was as grand as his favorite team's victories. He was a friendly soul who could strike up a conversation with anyone, making lasting friendships wherever he went. His adventurous nature was complemented by his ability to fix anything that came his way, a skill that often had family and friends seeking his expertise.
John's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his ex-wife, Rosemary Pilovsky, with whom he shared a lifelong friendship and partnership in parenting their beloved children. His daughter, Tabatha Pilovsky Kirby, and son-in-law, James Kirby, along with his daughter, Danielle Lepore, and son, John Pilovsky, will forever cherish his memory. John's legacy continues through his four adored grandchildren: Alexander Pilovsky, Madison Lepore, Frankie Lepore, and Zoe Ferment, who will miss their grandfather's boundless love and playful spirit.
John also leaves behind a supportive network of siblings, including Jeanie Revak, William Pilovsky, Linda Howells, Jimmy Pilovsky, Richie Pilovsky, and Eddie Pilovsky. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph Pilovsky and Michael Pilovsky, and his parents, Laura and Joseph Pilovsky. His numerous nieces and nephews will remember their Uncle John for his larger-than-life presence and the joy he brought to family gatherings.
As we say goodbye to John James Pilovsky, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and the unwavering courage to face each day with optimism. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his stories and the memories he created will continue to bring comfort and smiles to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
