John R. Bennett

John R. Bennett, 81 years of age, passed into eternal rest October 11, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents Howard & Anna Bennett, and is survived by his beloved life partner, Julius Castillo and sister Carrie & brother-in-law Rudolph D'Agostino. He is also survived by his maternal aunt Irene and uncle Edward DePersis and several cousins. John graduated from Johnson City High School in 1960 and earned a BA degree from SUNY Albany, 1964. John taught at Johnson City High School where he coached the wrestling team. He served in the US Army in Vietnam as an HR specialist. John held several human resource positions over the years, and retired from Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. John was passionate about tennis and always tickled pink when he and his doubles partner beat much younger players. He also enjoyed cooking and was an enthusiastic fan of the Food Network. An avid reader, John was always suggesting "good reads" and served as an adult literacy volunteer at various times. John attended St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church and St. Henry's Catholic Church, Bayonne. John's family would like to thank the medical and nursing staff at Jersey City Medical Center CCCU and ER staff at Beth Israel, Newark for their compassionate care. Family and friends will be received at the Caiola-Stellato Funeral Home, 691 Avenue C, Bayonne, Saturday, October 21 with visitation from 2-4PM.
