Jose Humberto Chicas

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jose Humberto Chicas on August 19, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on February 8, 1953, in El Salvador to Julio Cortez and Celedonia Chicas, Jose was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a true friend to many.

He spent over 40 years as a skilled chef at the Golden Eagle Diner in Palisades Park, NJ, and at the Boulevard Diner in North Bergen, NJ. His remarkable culinary talents and passion for cooking brought joy to countless patrons and made every meal a celebration of life.

Jose is survived by his beloved wife, Rosa Melida (nee Martinez) Chicas. He leaves behind his children, Jesy Karina & her husband Marlon Duran, Jose Luis Chicas, and Patricia Mariela Chicas. His legacy continues through his precious grandchildren: Estelio, Ricky, Manny, Michael, and Max. Jose is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Luis Alonso, Dolores, Jose German, Juan Ramon, Maria Magdalena, Julio Cesar, Evelia, Julia, Omar, and Richard, along with many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly. He is predeceased by his dear brother Wilfredo and sister Maria Catalina.

Jose was a family man who truly enjoyed life, often found on long walks, fishing, or sharing moments with friends and loved ones. His warmth, humor, and compassion for others left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

In honor of Jose's life, a visitation will be held at Hunt-Stellato Funeral Home on Friday, August 29, 3-8 PM. Following this, family and friends are invited to gather for a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, August 30 at 10 AM, where he will be laid to rest.

Jose will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace.
