Karen Haggerty, of Lyndhurst, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Above all, Karen was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who found her greatest joy in being surrounded by those she loved. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering presence carried her family through life’s most difficult moments, and her impact will be felt for generations.; especially her profound kindness and selfless personality. Perhaps her proudest role of all was being “Gigi” to her two cherished grandchildren and the proud mother of two active law enforcement officers and volunteer firefighters.
Karen was a dedicated public servant and proudly served as a township commissioner in Lyndhurst at the time of her passing, as only the third female in the history of the township to hold this office.
Throughout her life, Karen was widely known for her public service and supervision role in the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, a role she held with great pride and distinction.
In her personal time Karen enjoyed her time in the sun, and embraced her passion for shopping.
Karen is survived by her sons, Paul and Nick; her daughter-in-law, Corrine; her cherished grandchildren, Paulie and Brielle; her brother-in-law, Brian; as well as her future daughter-in-law, Kelly, as well as her daughter Vivianne. She is also lovingly remembered by extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched in meaningful ways.
As a loving and dedicated wife, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul N. Haggerty, as well as her parents, Frank and Ann Gisonti.
Friends and family will be received Thursday 4-8PM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Funeral Mass Friday 10AM Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Lyndhurst.
Karen will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her service to her community, her generosity, and her selflessness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the form of gift cards for food stores and dropped off at, or mailed to, the Lyndhurst Building Department/Code Enforcement Office, located on the ground floor at 253 Stuyvesant Avenue, to continue Karen's legacy of giving to others; or, to Memorial Sloan Kettering in her honor.
