Linda Anthony

March 22, 1925 — May 18, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Anthony, a devoted  mother, a beloved educator and cherished member of her community. Linda left this world on May 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and commitment to nurturing young minds.

Born to Vincenzo DiRada and Marie Carbonito in Ginestra degli Schiavoni, Italy on March 22, 1925 Linda grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey. Linda exemplified strength and compassion throughout her life. Hailing from a rich cultural heritage, she dedicated her career to the field of education.

Linda earned her Bachelor Degree in Education and her Master’s in Urban Studies. She taught as a Catechism Teacher in Wilton, CT and as a Grammar School Teacher in Jersey City, NJ, where she inspired countless students to reach for the stars. For Linda, teaching was not merely a profession but a calling; a way to shape the future through knowledge, encouragement, and faith.

Linda’s spirit extended beyond the classroom, as she was active and an engaged member of various religious and community organizations. A proud former member of the Dante Alighieri Society, the Women’s Club, the University Club, The Teresians, and the Franciscans of St. Francis Hospital. She held an unwavering belief in the importance of community service. At one time, she belonged to thirteen clubs, each one reflecting her commitment to her faith and her social enrichment and connection.

Linda was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph DeRado, James DeRado, Armand Norcia, Jerry Norcia, and Robert Norcia; her granddaughter Jennifer Hammer; and her son-in-law, William Hammer. Linda married Mark Anthony on June 5, 1949, who passed away on January 7, 1989. They raised their four daughters in Wilton, CT where Linda was active in the PTA and as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader.

Linda is survived by her cherished daughters, Donna and her husband Lars Hedegaard, Renee and her husband John Carolla, Lisa Hammer, and Lynn Anthony and her husband Steve Aylwin. As well as her beloved grandchildren, Marla Murphy, Marisa Hammer and Hunter Hedegaard. She also leaves behind her great-grandchild, Jaxton Castaing. They all will forever hold her memory dear to their hearts.

Loved ones and friends will gather to pay their respects and celebrate her remarkable journey on Thursday, June 12th from 3-7 PM. Funeral Procession on Friday 8:30AM from the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. Funeral mass at 10AM at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City. Interment to follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.

In this time of sorrow, we invite all who were touched by Linda’s kindness and dedication to join us in remembrance. As we gather to celebrate her life and legacy, let us find solace in the memories we cherished together and the love she so generously shared. Linda Anthony will forever be remembered as a guiding light to her family, friends, and community.
