Marguarite Conn LaBelle-Haltiwanger was born 12/31/1935 in Louisville, KY. She was the daughter of Robert C. LaBelle and Alice Sullivan LaBelle, and wife of the late Robert S. Haltiwanger (3/15/1923 -- 11/17/2008).

Ms. LaBelle-Haltiwanger was a full professor of Art History and Egyptology at Hunter College, New York City from 1964 to 1968, and New Jersey City University from 1968 to 2000. She received the title of Professor Emeritus upon retirement. She served as the chairperson of the Art History Department during her 32 years at the University. Also employed as an adjunct professor from 1971 to 1988 at St. Peter's College in Jersey City and Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

She received degrees from Ursuline College for Women (B.A.) in Louisville, KY, University of Louisville (M.F.A.), in Louisville, KY, Hunter College (M.A.) in New York City, and University of Cairo (Ph.D.) in Cairo, Egypt.

She was a member of Madonna Catholic Church in Fort Lee and a member of the Knickerbocker Country Club, Tenafly NJ.

Survived by her trusted friend, Renee Mitchell, who cared deeply for her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026 from 9:00am-10:30am in Hunt-Stellato Funeral Home, 1601 Palisade Ave, Fort Lee NJ. Mass, 11:00AM, Madonna Church, Fort Lee. Burial, to follow, Brookside Cemetery, Englewood.
