It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Zilda Abecassis, who departed this world peacefully on April 20th, 2026 at the age of 100. Born on December 21, 1925, in Parintins, Brazil, Maria's life was a testament to resilience and devotion. She was a proud parishioner of the Good Shepherd Church in Kearny, New Jersey.
Maria dedicated her life to her craft as a self-employed seamstress, working tirelessly in the fashion industry. Her creativity and artistry brought joy to many, and her warm spirit left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege to know her.
Maria is survived by her beloved daughters Judith Vagueiro and Silene Da Motta; her cherished grandchildren, Agostinho Vagueiro, Jucilene Vagueiro, Jack Da Motta, John Vagueiro, Zilda Da Motta, and Judy Hascup; her adored great-grandchildren, including Vanessa DeSousa, Joshua Vagueiro, Stacey Moore, Johnny, Gianna, Brandon, Nicholas, & Tyler Vagueiro, Kimmy & Kenny Hascup; as well as her great-great grandchildren, Ava & Sara De Sousa, Benjamin, Levi, Micah, & Samuel Vagueiro, David, Hannah, & Abigail Moore, John, Vincenzo, & Vienna Vagueiro. She is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will remember her with love and fondness.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24th, 2026 from 6:00pm-9:00pm in Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, Lyndhurst. Burial, Saturday 10:00am in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington NJ.
In celebrating Maria's life, we reflect on her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength. We invite those who knew her to join in remembrance of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. May she rest in eternal peace.
In keeping with Maria's generous spirit and wishes, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
