Mary Jennifer D'Alessio, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and inspirational educator, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on May 11, 1959, she grew up on Parker Street in Newark, NJ, to the late James & Frances D'Alessio (née Dominici). Mary moved to Livingston where she raised her three children, and then later moved to Chatham where she continued to carry on family traditions, nurtured her family, and touched the lives of countless community members. 

Mary was preceded in death by her sisters Kathleen Lordi, Janet Lombardy, and Frances D'Alessio.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joshua Stawski, Laura Richards, and James Stawski; her grandchildren, Nathan, Sienna, and Ethan; her dear sister, Donna Cerreto; and her daughters-in-law, Cristina D'Amico and Ana Lucia Torres Tinoco, her son-in-law, David Richards; as well as her niece and goddaughter, Christina Lordi.

After a successful career in Sales and Marketing, Mary became an inspirational teacher at Millburn Middle School, where she taught English, Holocaust Studies, and Debate. Beyond her role as an educator, Mary volunteered with CASA in Morris County, embodying her belief in helping others through acts of generosity and kindness. Throughout her life, Mary demonstrated a profound commitment to her faith as a devoted Christian and Deacon at New Providence Presbyterian Church, where she shared her love for Jesus with others. Her unwavering support and love for her children and grandchildren left an indelible mark on their lives. The grandchildren fondly referred to her as "Gaga."

Mary was an avid beach lover, often found walking the boardwalk of her favorite beach town, Spring Lake. Her spirit and zest for life were infectious; she lived each day to the fullest, leaving behind cherished memories.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm in Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, Lyndhurst. Kindly meet directly at the church for Mass, Friday, April 24th, 2026 at 10:00am in New Providence Presbyterian Church.  Burial, to follow, Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington NJ.

As we remember Mary, we honor the incredible person she was-an unwavering light in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire us all.
