With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Mary Mattera, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, who departed this life peacefully on August 17, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 28, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Francesca (nee Agnese) & George Vuoso.
Mary will be lovingly remembered for her exceptional cooking skills, often bringing joy to family gatherings with her remarkable meals. A dedicated homemaker, she took great pride in her home, keeping it immaculate, reflecting her neat and caring nature. Mary was an avid reader, finding solace and joy in the written word throughout her life. Her deep faith in God guided her actions, as she was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, embodying generosity and compassion.
Her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved family. Mary found fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life, such as barbecues and family gatherings, where her laughter and spirit will be dearly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Giuseppe Mattera; and her brothers, Ciro Vuoso and Joseph Vuoso.
Mary is survived by her son Anthony Mattera & his wife Dawn; her granddaughters, Alyssa Mattera & her fiancé Tommy Leuck, and Joya Mattera. She leaves behind friends, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and extended family who will continue to celebrate her life and the values she imparted.
Visitation will take place on Friday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Funeral Saturday 8:00 AM from Hunt-Stellato Funeral Home, 1601 Palisade Ave, Fort Lee. Funeral Mass 9:30 AM at St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Saddle Brook. Entombment, to follow, at Garden of Memories Cemetery & Mausoleum, Township of Washington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, located at 488 Saddle River Rd, Saddle Brook, NJ 07663, in honor of Mary's unwavering faith and dedication to her community.
Mary Mattera will be remembered as a loving matriarch, an unwavering friend, and a beacon of kindness whose legacy of love and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
