Michael deMontaigne

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael N. deMontaigne, who left us peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on July 14, 1951, in beautiful Guadeloupe to Michael & Bertha deMontaigne. Michael made his way to Fairfield, NJ, where he established a loving home and built a life that touched many.

Michael had a long and fulfilling career as the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works for the Township of Fairfield, where he dedicated 36 years of his life before retiring in 2007. He was not just a devoted worker; he was also a proud member of the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department, ready to lend a hand to those in need.

Beloved father of Sheri deMontaigne and Michelle deMontaigne & her husband Mark Barone. Cherished grandfather of James deMontaigne and Damian Barone. Dear brother of Gislhaine Maxwell, John deMontaigne, Bernie deMontaigne & the late Mary Bayardelle. His family was the heart of his life, and he will be deeply missed.

A memorial service to honor Michael's memory will take place Monday 3-5pm at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Rd., Fairifeld. Friends and family are invited to gather and share in the celebration of a life well-lived.

Although he has left this world, Michael's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. In his memory, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association at the link below.
