Michael Hurley

October 26, 1975 — July 8, 2023

Michael Patrick Hurley, 47, Litchfield, Maine died surrounded by his family on July 8, 2023, after a heroic battle with an aggressive form of melanoma. Michael was born on October 26, 1975, and spent his childhood years in Little Falls, New Jersey. Beloved son of Jim and Carol of Lewes, DE. Loving brother of Joseph of West Chester, PA and James & his wife Jodie Hurley of West Milford, NJ. Cherished partner and the love of his life Teresa Quinones. Adored grandson of his late paternal grandparents Joseph and Rose Hurley and late maternal grandparents Patrick and Muriel Honey both of Lyndhurst, NJ.

Michael always had a warm and loving personality. He had a booming laugh and a smile that lit up the room. Everyone liked Michael. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and football. Michael had a love for the outdoors and was very active in the Boy Scouts. He and his brother, James, achieved the highest award given to scouts - The Eagle Scout Award. They loved camping, hiking, and canoeing. Along with his two brothers, Michael was an alter server at Holy Angels Church in Little Falls, NJ.

After graduating from Passaic Valley High School, Michael attended and graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. While in college, Michael worked as a lifeguard at the Seton Hall swimming pool and during the summer months at a swim club in NJ. Michael also spent one summer volunteering at a Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Following graduation, Michael spent several years employed as a website developer and manager for a book publishing company. Michael soon became unhappy with the constant congestion of the tri-state area. Since he loved the outdoors, he and Teresa decided to consider relocating to Maine. They loved the beauty and less congestion found in Maine and decided to purchase a home in Litchfield, Maine.

Michael developed a love for gardening and grew a large variety of vegetables and fruits. He and Teresa also raised chickens and had a regular supply of fresh eggs which they shared with their neighbors. Michael and Teresa loved living in Maine and referred to it as their “Happy Place”.

Michaels remains will be interred in a family plot in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey on September 23rd. A gathering of family and friends will celebrate his life immediately following the internment at a local restaurant.
