Naoum Megaris, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on October 30, 2025, in Englewood, New Jersey. Born on January 15, 1943, in the picturesque town of Kastoria, Greece, Naoum's journey was one marked by passion, dedication, and a zest for life that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Naoum's academic pursuits were as varied as they were impressive. In the early 1960s, after graduating high school in Kastoria, he moved to New York City, alone, and enrolled in New York University. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, he went on to obtain a Master's degree in Marketing, followed by a Ph.D. in Marketing. His love for learning and an innate business acumen set the stage for a career that blended his intellect with his entrepreneurial spirit.
In the early years of his professional life, Naoum made his mark in the marketing department of the renowned retailer J.C. Penney and then at Chase Manhattan Bank. However, the call of family and the entrepreneurial dream led him to join forces with his father and brother in the family's fur business. In 1981, he opened his own storefront in the bustling garment district of Manhattan. For over four decades, his business thrived, a testament to his hard work, innovative thinking, and the close relationships he built with his clients, who he loved.
In the summer of 1981, he wooed and then married the love of his life, Anna. They returned to New York that winter and began their life together.
Naoum's life was a reflection of the values he held dear. He was a pillar of strength for his family, providing unwavering support and love to his beloved wife, his daughter, Alexandra, his son, Antonios, and his brother, Petros. The bonds he forged with his family were unbreakable, and the legacy of his kindness and generosity will live on through them.
Naoum found joy on the tennis courts, where his competitive spirit and sportsmanship were always on display. A keen mind with a talent for rhetoric, debating politics was more than a hobby; it was a way for him to engage with the world and share his insightful perspectives. Yet, it was the summers spent in his hometown of Kastoria that brought him the greatest pleasure, reconnecting with his roots and basking in the beauty of his native land.
Naoum Megaris's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, ambition, and the rich experiences that come from a life well-lived. While he may have departed from this world, the memories he created, the wisdom he imparted, and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
