Listen to Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Nelson Fernández, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated leader in the food products industry. Nelson was born on August 5, 1949, in Havana, Cuba, to Manuel and Carmen Fernández. He moved to the United States at the young age of 11 and grew up in West New York, NJ, where he cultivated his passions and began a remarkable journey that would touch many lives.

Nelson served as the President/CEO of Condal Distributors in the Bronx, a thriving Spanish wholesale food distributor that he cherished and grew from the legacy of his father. Despite the demands of his work schedule - often requiring him to dedicate himself seven days a week - Nelson found joy in life beyond business. He created treasured memories with his beloved family, enjoyed travel, indulged in fine dining, and cherished boating on the lake.

A man with many talents, Nelson was also a passionate sports announcer for CBS, HBO, ESPN, Deportes and Tuesday Night Fights lending his voice to football and boxing events. His love for boxing extended beyond just commentary; he devoted time as a boxing manager, proudly guiding eight world champions throughout their careers. In 2016 Nelson was inducted to the NJ Boxing Hall of Fame.

Devoted husband of Frances Fernández, for 50 wonderful years. Loving father of Nancy, Nelson Jr., Natalie, and Nicole & her husband Joseph Iadanza. Cherished Lolo of Jessica Cari Grant, Aracely Arencibia, Cindy Mae Lopez, Alicia Lopez, Kevin Anthony Garcia, Jade Ciara Carranza, Shane Michael Fernández, Gianna Rose Iadanza, and Mia Elise Iadanza. Adored great-grandfather of Jayden, Joshua Jr., Brando, Jardani, and Jason. He was loved deeply by his family and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will take place at Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Rd., Fairfield on Wednesday from 6 - 8pm and Thursday 4 - 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Friday at 10:45 am. Entombment Holy Cross Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bloomfield Animal Shelter in honor of Nelson's love for animals.

As we mourn the loss of this remarkable man, we remember his legacy of love, dedication, and resilience, and we seek solace in the memories we shared with him.
