Patricia Lorraine (nee Ragusa) Gnall, 79, of Hamburg, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25th, after bravely battling dementia for the past four years.
Patricia was born on September 7, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Josephine and Santo Ragusa. She was one of six children and grew up surrounded by a close-knit Italian family. From a young age, Patricia was known for her strong work ethic, sense of responsibility, and deep Catholic faith, which guided her throughout her life. She embraced the traditions of her Italian heritage, placing family, faith, and hospitality at the center of her home. She began her professional career working for New York Life Insurance in the Empire State Building, where she worked before getting married and earned the respect of her colleagues for her dedication and reliability.
She met the love of her life, Jerome Gnall, after being set up on a blind date by their sisters, Josephine and Evedokia and on April 19, 1969 they were married and together they welcomed their daughter, Jennifer, in August 1975.
Patricia and her family made their home in Maywood, New Jersey, where she devoted herself to being a loving stay-at-home mother. Once Jennifer was in middle school, she returned to the workforce at Myron Manufacturing. There she was admired for her commitment, attention to detail, and tireless work ethic-qualities that defined her both professionally and personally.
Patricia and her husband relocated to Hamburg, New Jersey, to be closer to their daughter and her family. This move allowed them to live in a home designed entirely on one level and ensured comfort and care during the later years of her life.
With the help of devoted live-in aides, Jerome lovingly cared for Patricia at home. These caregivers provided compassionate, attentive care and built deep, meaningful relationships with Patricia's family, becoming an important and cherished part of their lives.
Patricia was the beloved wife of Jerome Andrew Gnall. Loving mother of Jennifer & her husband Robert DeMuth, Jr. Cherished grandmother of Natalie Maria, Robert Jerome, and Laurel Josephine. Dear sister of the late Augustus Ragusa, Angelina Orgera, Anne Velechenko, Sandra Averzano, and Josephine Valentino. She is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She took great pride in keeping a warm, welcoming, and impeccably organized home and was known for cooking delicious meals rooted in family tradition for those she loved. She had a natural gift for caring for others and always made sure everyone around her was taken care of. Her home was open to all, and her daughter's friends often became extensions of her family-many calling just to talk with her. Her faith and love for family were evident in everything she did.
She found joy in cooking, reading, long phone conversations with family, traveling with her family, and most of all, spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
Patricia's love, faith, dedication, and kindness were felt by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
