With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patrick Joseph Hoey, a beloved father, grandfather, teacher, and friend, who passed on July 21, 2025. Born on September 2, 1937, in New York, NY, Patrick led a life rich with purpose and devotion, particularly to education and his cherished family.

Patrick was a proud graduate of Power Memorial Academy in NYC, later attending Iona College, where he majored in Accounting and English, Patrick furthered his passion for education at Seton Hall University, earning his teaching certificate. He solidified his expertise with a degree in Business Education from Montclair State College. In 1959, he embarked on a remarkable journey as a high school teacher, joining the esteemed staff of Essex Catholic High School in Newark. His commitment to molding young minds carried on through the school's relocation to East Orange in 1980, where he continued to inspire students until his retirement in 1995.

While his profession was that of a dedicated educator, Patrick also lent his talents to the financial world as a seasonal tax accountant and owner of P & H Tax Services from 1975 to 1990. His multifaceted career was a testament to his unwavering work ethic and love for learning.

Patrick's passion for life extended beyond the classroom. A devoted sports fan, he was rarely seen without a smile while watching his favorite teams-the NY Rangers during hockey season and the Atlanta Braves in the summer months. He was a constant presence on the sidelines, cheering enthusiastically for each of his grandchildren, whom he adored deeply.

Beloved father of Marguerite Hoey-Cronrath & her husband Donald, Patrick Gerard James & his wife Laura, and Daniel O'Connell Hoey. Cherished grandfather of Patrick, Evan, Kaitlyn, Matthew, and Bridget. Dear brother of Elizabeth Collins & her husband Edward. Adored uncle of Edward and Steven Collins. Former husband of the late Maureen Hoey.

Visitation Monday 4-8PM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst. Funeral Service Tuesday 9AM from the funeral home prior to the 10AM Mass at the Church of St. Mary, Rutherford. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery

Patrick's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, a loving father, a committed educator, and a passionate sports fan who made an indelible mark on all our lives. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering support will be missed beyond measure.
