Raymond Dewey

August 29, 1935 — May 28, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Reginald Dewey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and cherished friend, who passed on May 28, 2025, at the age of 89. Raymond was born on August 29, 1935, in Bognor Regis, Sussex, England to Reginald and Eileen (nee Bishop) Dewey, and spent his later years residing in Verona, New Jersey.

Raymond lived a life filled with passion and music. He was a talented piano player, enchanting many with his melodies during his time at Il Tulipano and Nordstrom's. His musical talent was a testament to his love for life and the joy he found in sharing music with others. Raymond's journey also took him through the ranks of the British Army and the British Merchant Navy on the Queen Mary Ship, part of the Cunard Fleet. These experiences shaped his character and imparted a deep sense of loyalty and duty.

In addition to his musical pursuits, "Spike" brought good cheer to countless individuals as a bartender at Gabe's Galley in Montclair. With a quick wit and an abundance of jokes, he brightened the lives of all who crossed his path, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of friends and patrons alike.

Loving husband of his devoted wife of 52 years, Grace (nee Chiacco) Dewey. Loving father of Dean & his wife Penny Dewey and Keith & his wife Erin Dewey. Cherished grandfather of Thomas James "TJ" Dewey & his fiancé Jenny and the late Joseph R. Dewey. Adored great-grandfather of Hannah and Michael. His family was a cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Funeral Service Saturday, June 7 at 10AM at the Grace Episcopal Church, 200 Highfield Lane, Nutley. Cremation private.

Raymond Reginald Dewey will be remembered not only for his musical talent but for the laughter he spread and the love he imparted to those fortunate enough to know him.
