Richard V DeMaio

Richard V. DeMaio passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born on February 22, 1937 to Vincent & Ruth (nee Hoffman) DeMaio, he was raised in Montclair, NJ and was a proud graduate of Montclair High School.

Upon graduation, Richie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1956-1958, Richard's dedication to service extended beyond his military commitment. For 60 years, he owned and operated Richard V Michaels, a hair salon in Fairfield, where he built lasting relationships with his clients. He also worked for 25 years at Honeywell in Teterboro as a janitor. Even after retirement, he continued to share his work ethic and passion in the janitorial fields of the Boonton and Montville School Districts.

Richard was not only known for his hard work; he was a man of many passions. In his younger years, he was a talented ballroom dance instructor and enjoyed dancing throughout his life. He was also an avid visitor of casinos and had a particular admiration for antique cars. Richard's love for animals, especially dogs and cats, was evident in his caring nature.

Beloved husband of 44 years to Mary Ann (nee Romano) DeMaio. He is survived by a loving family that includes his precious grandchildren and a large circle of cherished friends who will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his sisters; Jackie Perrotti and Pat Longo.

Visitation Thursday 10AM-1PM at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Rd., Fairfield. Funeral Service Thursday 1pm at the funeral home followed by Entombment at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Montville Animal Shelter, 7 Church Ln, Montville, NJ 07045, in Richard's honor.
