Rosemary McCarthy

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rosemary McCarthy, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, who departed this life on February 3, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on September 27, 1946, in the Bronx, NY to Alexander & Rose (nee Puma) Banek, Rosemary spent over 60 years as a resident of Edgewater, NJ, where she left an indelible mark on her community.

Rosemary dedicated more than 30 years of her life to serving the Bergen County Medical Examiner Office, and was known for her unwavering commitment and compassion in her work. She was deeply valued by her colleagues and friends alike for her kindness and dedication. Outside of her professional life, Rosemary enjoyed many memorable cruises with her dear friends, including Msgr. Ronald Rozniak, Gail, and Charlie Reynolds, creating cherished memories that will last forever in the hearts of those who traveled alongside her.

She is survived by her beloved children, Scott & his wife Lynda McCarthy, Lisa & her husband Philip Ghostlaw, William & his wife Michele McCarthy, and Robert & his wife Heather McCarthy. Rosemary was a proud grandmother to Nicholas, Alicia, Daniel, Allyson, and Thomas. She is predeceased by her dear siblings: her brother, Edward Banek, and her sister, Judith Banek O'Callghan. Her absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 13th, 2026 at 11AM in Holy Rosary Church, 365 Undercliff Avenue, Edgewater NJ. 

As we say goodbye to Rosemary, let us remember the love and light she brought into our lives and the countless ways she touched the hearts of all around her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
