It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Salvatore Bellomo, beloved husband, father, and esteemed attorney, who departed this life on January 4, 2026, at the age of 66. Salvatore was born on June 27, 1959, in Castellana Sicula, Sicily, Italy, and later held a cherished residence in Lodi, New Jersey.
A proud alumnus of Marquette University and California Western Law School, Salvatore earned his Professional Degree and dedicated his life to the field of law. He was the owner of the Law Offices of Salvatore Bellomo, LLC in Totowa, New Jersey, where he practiced from 2013 until his passing. Salvatore's commitment to justice and public service was exemplified by his roles as a public defender for the Passaic and Paterson municipalities since 2015, as well as his tenure as Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Passaic County from 1986 to 2013. His contributions to the legal community were recognized with his selection as one of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 in 2023 and 2024, named as lawyer of Distinction in 2025, and he served as a trustee for the Office of Attorney Ethics, alongside active membership in the New York, New Jersey, and Passaic County Bar Associations and the United States Supreme Court, and was a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He was also the recipient of the Marquis Who's Who Publication Boards Lifetime Achievement Award.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Salvatore was deeply involved in his community. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 379 and as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, demonstrating his commitment to youth development and mentorship. He was also a frequent patron of Gun For Hire in Woodland Park, New Jersey.
Salvatore was preceded in death by his parents, Gioacchino Bellomo & Iolanda Bellomo (nee Calistro), and his brother, Antonio Bellomo.
Salvatore is survived by his loving wife, Kim Bellomo (nee Kees); his son, Salvatore M. Bellomo, and his husband, Thomas D. Cobau; his daughter, Emily McHale, and her husband, Ed McHale; and his cherished grandchildren, Jordan and Marybel McHale. He also leaves behind his sister, Anna Rita Lo Casto (nee Bellomo); nephews Julian & his wife Jasmine Lo Casto and their two children Natalia and Mateo, and Jack Lo Casto & his fiancée Hannah Timmons; cousins, Rosaria and Armando Virga; sister-in-law Barbara LaRue; as well as extended family in Italy and Germany.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8th, 2026 from 2:00pm-7:00pm at Hunt-Stellato Funeral Home, Fort Lee. Mass will be celebrated on Friday at St. Nicholas R.C. Church, Palisades Park at 10:30am. Burial, to follow, Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee.
Salvatore Bellomo will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, community, and the pursuit of justice.
