It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Sonia Taupier, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left us on August 24, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 27, 1931, in Santiago, Cuba, Sonia carried with her a deep love of family and a boundless warmth that touched everyone she met.
In 1969, with courage and faith, she and her family came to the United States with little more than hope in their hearts, building a new life rooted in resilience, love, and strength.
Sonia was the cherished wife and constant companion of her husband, Luis, for 70 years. She created a home overflowing with love, laughter, and traditions that became the foundation for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was the treasured mother of Louis and his wife, Lisa Taupier, and of the late Vivian and Carlos Taupier; beloved grandmother of Jaclyn and her husband, Christopher Brancato, Brian and his wife, Sarah Taupier, and Brittany Taupier; and dear “Abuela” to her great-grandchildren: Jordan, Christopher, Mackenzie, Brandon, Leila, and Scarlett. Sonia was also the loving sister of the late Nery and Nora.
Though life brought its share of hardships, Sonia faced every challenge with grace and courage. She was an eternal optimist, always focusing on the good, and became the steady source of comfort and strength for her family. Her home was a sanctuary—where every holiday, birthday, and family dinner was celebrated with warmth, where the table was filled with her delicious cooking, and where everyone left feeling uplifted and loved.
For more than 50 years, Sonia poured her energy and determination into her business, Sonia’s Fashion Inc. in Union City. What began as a small endeavor grew into a thriving family business, a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and tireless work ethic.
Above all, Sonia will be remembered for her gentle strength, her compassion, and the way she lived her life guided by love. Her legacy is not only in the family she cherished but in the countless lives she touched with her warmth, optimism, and unwavering devotion.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sonia’s remarkable life at visitation on Wednesday from 4–8 PM at Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at the same location, followed by entombment at Flower Hill Cemetery and Mausoleum, North Bergen.
In this time of sorrow, we take comfort in gathering together to honor Sonia’s life, to share the stories that bring her memory close, and to celebrate the joy she brought into our lives.
