Virginia Ann "Ginny" McHugh (1937-2026) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Ginny graduated from East Rutherford High School before pursuing her passion for nursing. She went on to study operating room nursing and graduated at the top of her class from Bergen Pines School of Practical Nursing in Paramus, New Jersey. She then embarked on an impressive career spanning more than 50 years as an operating room nurse at HUMC in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ginny was a creative soul. She loved crafting, painting, ceramics, arts and crafts, and sewing-skillfully creating her own wedding gown and the dresses for her bridesmaids. Yet, her greatest joy was traveling. A true world-class traveler, she explored the United States, Europe, Egypt, Greece, Israel and Turkey, often alongside her sister and brother in law, embracing every adventure that came her way.
Ginny's other great love was football, especially the New York Jets. She cherished over 40 years of season tickets, spoke passionately about the sport, and knew more about the rules of football than anyone else.
Virginia is survived by her devoted children, Loreen Vasselli and her husband Mike, Kerry Mastrofilipo and her husband Al; her beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Alex, Michael and Matthew, who were the joy of her life; her sister, Joan Giacumakis; sister in law, Catherine Harff; her loving niece; and her four nephews and their spouses.
Her warmth, creativity, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 11AM-2PM at Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 7 Two Bridges Rd., Fairfield, New Jersey.
