It is with both sorrow and gratitude that we celebrate the remarkable life of Zelandia Fernandez, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and unwavering woman of faith, who passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Zelandia's life was marked by fierce independence, resilience, and a deep devotion to her family and her faith. After the birth of her first son, she made the bold decision to leave her first husband, despite his wealth. With courage and determination, she moved to New York City on her own, beginning a new life as a single mother.
Zelandia was a strong, principled woman who raised her three sons-Juan, Manny, and David. She prioritized her children above all, and her love and sacrifices laid the foundation for the lives they now lead. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her legacy forward.
A devout Jehovah's Witness, Zelandia remained strong in her religious convictions throughout her life, finding strength and purpose in her faith community.
She pursued education to become a cosmetologist, later transitioning into work as a home health aide, where she gave compassionate and attentive care to her clients. Her nurturing spirit touched many lives beyond her own family.
Zelandia was ahead of her time when it came to health and wellness. She followed a low-oil, plant-based diet long before it became popular, and her radiant health, beauty, and agility well into her later years were a testament to her mindful living.
Zelandia Fernandez was a woman of quiet strength and unshakable values, who lived life on her own terms-with dignity, grace, and a deep love for her family. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
